Changing the system of government of Kurdistan or dividing it further?
By Gazi Hassan

Last week, one of the leaders of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), Duran Kalkan, on (Med News) channel, called for dividing the Kurdistan Region into several pieces; shed crocodile tears for Ezidie Kurds; and attacked a certain official political party.

These remarks came at a time some political parties intend to turn Shingal into a Canton separated from Kurdistan Region.

They try to exploit the catastrophes in Shingal area as a political card to get armed and gain power to stand against and oppose the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

As an unexpected bomb, Kalkan's remarks went off amid all the problems, disagreements and the ongoing of the fierce war against the IS.

Why does Kalkan want to change the system of government of Kurdistan? What authority and right does he have to do so?

Kalkan is a person who's facing charges of terrorism in Germany, can't speak Kurdish, and is one of the leaders of the PKK whose battlefield should be in Turkey not anywhere else.

How can he give himself the right to intervene the domestic affairs of the Kurdistan Region? Or why does he want to use the sufferings and catastrophes of Ezidies to gain a political point.

This is the extension of policies of Kurdistan's occupiers, who do whatever in their power to divide and weaken people's determination.

These questions are part of the sinister plots which are masterminded against Kurdistan Region by obvious powers in the area and some even inside Kurdistan Region as well.

Instead of defending the Ezidie Kurds, Kalkan wants to diminish the effects of genocide against the Ezidies.

He tries to turn it into an internal matter through which he intends to turn on the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which is the major power in the area and the political decision maker of Kurdistan.

President Masoud Barzani and the KRG have the position of authority to determine the future of this Region, not some people who put all their efforts to politically weaken the Kurdistan Region.

The ones who have the legitimate authority to make decisions about the governing system of Kurdistan are those parties who've been sacrificing for decades thousands of their members to realize people's dreams to achieve freedom for the Kurdish.

Moreover, to move forwards to establish better and productive relations with the international community. Duran Kalakn's remarks imply opening of another serious and opposing front against the Kurdistan Region.

But still this is not serious enough. What is more frightening is that the poisonous opinions are supported by some parties inside the Kurdistan Region in order to take political revenge.

If we took a closer look at it, a while ago the PKK suggested establishing cantons in Kurdistan Region.

We know the fact that PKK's main task is to struggle in Turkey not interfering with what is going on here. Kurdistan has helped PKK in various ways:

military bases are opened for them; they're claimed as the freemasons and heroes of counter-IS war.

But instead of appreciation they try to diminish the role of KDP and the leadership of this party.

We don't mean anyone to be accused in these events, but the media campaign, military skirmishes, and the existence of some illegal forces in some areas of Kurdistan make the doubts even clearer to feel.

Kurdistan is currently in need of regaining the disputed areas. It needs unity of political parties and a unified discourse across the Great Kurdistan.

We need a crucial center for political decisions. People such as (Duran Kalkan) or any other one who is chasing the mirage of deepening the internal problems in Kurdistan swim against the tide.

Such chaos ceases at the foot of mountains of Kurdistan as the enemies and occupiers did before.

Now, it is time for every political party and group to do their best to cooperate, instead of separate, and realize the long-awaited dream of the Kurdish people.
The matter is urgent indeed.
