The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a message on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Gulan Revolution, which began on May 26, 1976, against the Ba'athist regime.

Nechirvan Barzani stated that the Kurdistan people's faith in the revolution in a short period of time was an opportunity to show strong will and great support, adding: “44 years ago, as today, the Gulan Revolution started with the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK), was a continuation of the Aylul Revolution. The commemoration of the Gulan Revolution is a tribute to the work of the people, the struggle of the heroic Peshmerga and the recognition of the blood of the martyrs and their proud families.”

Barzani stressed that the commemoration of the Gulan Revolution, which was a gathering of national strength and a successful experience of the work of the Kurdish people at that time, could be a powerful tool for modernization and national struggle.

"The confidence of the Kurdistan people in the message and purpose of the revolution has been a great support to the strengthening and development of the will of the people of Kurdistan," Barzani said.

The President of the Kurdistan Region also stressed that the commemoration of the Gulan Revolution is a time when the main work and responsibility of all parties and components of Kurdistan must continue to work for the strengthening of unity. We work together to protect the achievement and a better future.

May the 44th anniversary of the Gulan Revolution be celebrated. Praise be to the work and dedication of the Peshmerga and the heroic fighters who sacrificed their lives. Congratulations to the martyrs of the revolution and to the whole of Kurdistan.”
