Planning ministry extends SGS work until end of month
The Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation has decided to extend the work of SGS until the end of this month.
Ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi said the decision was taken in response to the demands of businessmen and importers until the completion of their commercial dealings with the Swiss company.

"The extension decision wasn't taken to negotiate with the company or cancel the decision of the ministry about ending the company's contract, but it was taken in order to complete some legal and administrative measures," he said.

He added that the work of SGS was not at the required level agreed during the contract period.

The ministry decided to terminate the contract with SGS, which is responsible for inspecting the quality of goods before their introduction into Iraq .

The contact between the ministry and SGS was inked in May last year. The ministry previously said that six companies are competing to replace SGS.
