President Masoud Barzani met with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq James Jeffery today to discuss current political developments in Iraq and in the region.

Ambassador Jeffery reaffirmed U.S. commitment to the democratic process in Iraq his government will continue to support Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, even now that the U.S. troops have left the country. He described the Kurdistan Region as a success story in the Middle East and pledged his country's continued commitment to the security and welfare of the people of the Kurdistan Region. He also hailed the security and economic successes in the Kurdistan Region noting that Kurdistan will be a key player in the future of this region.


On the current crisis that has gripped the political process in Iraq, President Barzani said that in order to make political progress, all Iraqi sides must abide by the Iraqi Constitution and honor the agreements that exist among Iraq’s political blocks.
