4 Haditha attackers killed and 10 more arrested
Four of the Haditha city attackers, who killed 27 policemen on Monday, have been killed by the security forces and 10 others have been captured.

“Four of the Haditha attackers were killed Tuesday after they refused to surrender to security forces," Salahaddin Police Commander Abdulkarim al-Khazraji told AKnews.

"Ten others were detained in the Baiji district, 110 km north of Tikrit city, Salahaddin province.”

Insurgents dressed in military uniforms began attacking SWAT police headquarters in Haditha as well as several checkpoints at around 2am on Monday morning.

27 officers died, including the police chief, Mohamed al-Shoufer, and at least five more were injured.

Police detained three wounded militants during the prolonged clashes that followed the attack on Monday.

Khazraji said: “Police forces raided a house in Baiji district where four men involved in the Haditha attacks were hiding.

"Three of them were arrested but the fourth was wearing an explosive vest and blew himself up as security forces tried to detain him.”

Questioning of the men detained on Monday led to the location of the other militants involved in the attacks.

A second raid on another house in one of the villages near Baiji, where 10 other militants were hiding, led to a gunfight between the men and the security forces.

“But the security forces managed to control the house after killing three of the militants and detaining the rest,” he said.

According to al-Khazraji, among the detained militants is a doctor.
