Kurdistan Parliament discusses amnesty law
-Kurdistan Parliament held a regular session on March 27, 2012, chaired by Dr. Arsalan Baiz. The Deputy President, Dr. Mohammed Hassan and Mr. Firsat Ahmed, Secretary, were a 27/3/2012 its normal session, headed by Dr. Arslan Baez, and with the presence of Deputy Parliament Speaker Dr. Mohammed Hassan and also in attendance.

The Agenda was read at the beginning of the session, which included discussion of the draft general amnesty law in the Kurdistan Region.

The draft law has been reviewed by several Parliamentary Standing Committees--Interior, Social and Family Affairs, and Human Rights--in order to take consideration of expert opinions with regard to the substance of the draft law as well as the legal matters. The President of the Parliament commented on the length of time it has taken to bring the draft law to the Parliament.

Dr. Baiz stated that there had been a request for a confidential discussion about the draft law prior to the presentation of the joint committees report. He indicated that they were in favour of the confidential discussion. With the agreement of the majority of the members, it was agreed to continue in a closed session.
