- The secretary general of the "Sons of Iraq" (Abnaa al-Iraq al-Ghuyara) coalition Sheikh Abbas al-Muhammadawi said yesterday that his statements about the Kurdistan Region were misunderstood by Kurdish MPs.

The Kurdish Blocs Coalition (KBC) described two days ago the Sons of Iraq coalition as "terrorist and racist" after the publication of online news articles attributed to Muhammadawi threatening of killing Kurds who are in Arab areas.

The KBC called on the security services to protect the Kurds and take legal action against the coalition. The KBC also revealed it would file a lawsuit against Muhammadawi.

Muhammadawi said: "I represent a peaceful political party and I didn't threaten anybody. My position was clear, that is treating the Kurds entering the Arab areas the same as the Arabs entering the Kurdistan Region are treated."

He added: "I can prosecute those who accused me of terrorism and respond to them severely, but as a representative of a political party I must not respond."

Muhammadawi revealed about communication that took place between him and some Kurdish MPs about the "mechanism for entering the region, and they admitted that it is a little complicated".

He did not reveal the names of the Kurdish MPs.

The Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced on Sunday that the duty of the security forces is to protect all members of the Iraqi people without discrimination, in response to the issue of threatening Kurds who are in Arab areas.

A number of the media articles reported on Friday that a statement was issued by spokesman of Regiment Badr 9 Abu Abdullah al-Muhammadawi of the Sons of Iraq coalition about giving the Kurds in Baghdad and Arab areas one week to leave to the Kurdistan region, or else arms would be held against the Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani and those with him.

Abu Abdullah al-Muhammadawi added that "forewarned is forearmed".

Abbas al-Muhammadawi announced on January 21, 2012 about the formation of Badr 9 regiment to respond to Kuwait's alleged violations of Iraq. The regiment includes volunteers from civil society organizations from all Iraqi factions that represent Arab tribes in the central, western and southern provinces.
