Dialogue still an option to overcome crisis, says Kurdish MP
There is still a chance for the political forces to narrow their differences through negotiations and dialogue, said a Kurdish MP.
Rhetoric and media statements will only deepen the crisis that Iraqi political process is suffering from and deteriorate the stability and security in the country, said Mahmoud Othman of the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC).

Othman said that the suspended files between the political blocs or between the federal and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will not be resolved without "direct talks."

He added so far the response of the largest political force, the National Alliance (NA), to the recent demands issued in Erbil is not clear, despite the fact that the 15-day deadline is over.

Almost three weeks ago Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani, Sadr Current Leader Muqtada Sadr and Iraqiya List Leader Ayad Allawi as well as House Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi met with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in Erbil.

The leader s all except Talabani signed a letter which was sent to NA. The letter demanded that NA candidate Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki stop his "unilateral" ruling or the leaders will take action to withdraw confidence from Maliki's government in 15 days.

The deadline ended yesterday but so far no developments have been observed.

Maliki is embattled from two fronts, the political blocs and the KRG. More and more leaders are accusing him of tending to "autocracy" by neglecting his government partners in decision making.

To these critiques, Maliki has responded that he is acting according to the constitution and threatened with freezing the constitution, dissolving the government and ordering early elections if protests continue.
