Kurdistan coalition and Iraqiya to discuss political crisis
The Kurdish Blocs Coalition will meet with Iraqiya in Erbil today along with Kurdistan's President Massoud Barzani to discuss the political crisis in Iraq.

iraqiyaIraqiya leader Ayad Allawi, Iraq's parliament speaker Osama Nujaifi, Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq and a delegation accompanying them arrived in Erbil yesterday evening.

Barzani's chief of staff, Fuad Hussein said: "The visit's aim is to hold a meeting with Massoud Barzani and the Kurdistan coalition in the Iraqi parliament [today] to discuss the current crisis in the country and the points that emerged from the Erbil and Najaf meetings."

The concerned parties in the meeting have received a response from the National Alliance, but it is unlikely that the alliance will participate in today's meeting, said Hussein.

Hussein added that he expected a delegation from the Sadrist Movement to come to Erbil today to discuss the current crisis in the country.

Four political leaders previously gathered in Najaf to write a letter giving the National Alliance one week to nominate an alternative to PM Nouri al-Maliki.

The four leaders who signed the request were Barzani, Allawi, Nujaifi and leader of the Sadrist Movement Muqtada al-Sadr.

Prior to meeting in Najaf, the same four leaders gathered in Erbil on April 28 to write a letter outlining a number of political demands.

The letter was sent to National Coalition (NC) leader Ibrahim al-Jaafari and gave PM Maliki 15 days to respond or else the leaders would withdraw confidence from his government. The deadline ended and Sadr denied receiving any response from the NC to the letter.
