Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq – Minister Falah Mustafa received the new Polish Consul, Mr Roman Jerzy Chalaczkiewicz, to the Kurdistan Region yesterday.

The new consul has previously served as ambassador to Iraq (1997-2002) and in other countries in the Middle East, including United Arab Emirates.

The assignment of the new consul follows the inauguration of their consulate in June last year.

In his meeting with Minister Mustafa, he expressed his readiness to work with the authorities for the mutual benefit of both sides. He said, “This is a new chance to develop ties between Kurdistan and Poland.”

“We want to establish relations with other dynamic countries and economies, including Kurdistan. We want to be part of your activities.”

He also spoke about the regions in Poland and his government’s support for region-to-region ties.

In welcoming him to his post, Minister Mustafa said that his assignment is a sign of the strengthening relationship between Kurdistan and Poland. He said, “We consider Poland a partner, and this is another step in further cementing this relationship.”

He touched on the exchange of visits and the need for further cooperation between the KRG Representative in Poland and the authorities.

“Your presence in Erbil will play an important part in further developing and deepening our political and economic ties. We want to benefit from your country’s experience in cultural activities, the education sector, and in building institutions.”

The two sides also spoke about the need for the consulate to provide consular services to promote trade and economic ties.

Minister Mustafa expressed his department’s readiness to assist and support his mission in Erbil.

The KRG Representative to Poland, Mr. Ziyad Raoof, also attended the meeting.
