Iraq out of Chapter 7, Advantage for Kurdistan

Iraq out of Chapter 7, Advantage for Kurdistan
Iraq faces new challenge after being free of Chapter VII that was imposed after Saddam Husain’s invasion of Kuwait. A member of Kurdistan Alliance List in parliament defined the move as a positive challenge in favor of Kurdistan Region.

Hassan Jihad, a member of Kurdistan Alliance list told Peyamner News Agency that “Iraq being out of the Chapter 7 in United Nations is a historical move by United Nation, which supposes to lead to great advantage for Kurdistan region”

“This is because all the Iraqi blocked moneys in the international banks around the world will be returned to the country. And Kurdistan has a share in this money” he added.

Jihad suggested that the 17% Kurdistan share of general budget will be increased as these moneys will be returned back to Iraq.

Chapter 7 of the charter allows the Security Council to authorize actions ranging from sanctions to military intervention if states do not abide by the councils’ demands.

Under the UN resolution, Iraq will enjoy complete sovereignty and independent decision from one hand and it will be dealt with as recognized fully by the international community politically on the other hand.

Iraq will gain another point boils down to the financial side, where it would be non-binding to deposit its petroleum imports in the Development Fund for Iraq affiliated to the United Nations, after 5% had been deducted as compensation.

Kuwait has opposed a lot in the past years to expel Iraq from Chapter VII because of differences over borders, missing people, property and other issues, and that was a major reason to make Iraq remain under this Chapter, but most of these issues found their way to the solution recently.

Iraq and Kuwait took procedures in recent months to address their differences on general aviation companies and restoration of border.
