‘Parts of Iraqi land given to Kuwait to get Iraq out of chapter VII ‘, official says
A member of Provincial Council in Basra, Ghanim Abdul Amir told Peyamner News Agency that Maliki’s government gave parts of Iraqi land to Kuwait in order to free Iraq from chapter VII.

“Maliki gave up parts of Iraqi land to Kuwaiti government including Umm Qasr and several farm lands in South in order to get Iraq out of chapter VII” Ghanim Abdul Amir said.

According to Abdul Amir Kuwaiti’s consensus on Iraq being out of chapter VII came after Iraqi government reached an agreement with Kuwait to give them parts of Iraqi land.

Abdul Amir also urged Maliki to take these lands back to Iraq. “Iraqi’s land belongs to a nation; Maliki cannot give country’s land to another state. Citizens in South of Iraq believe that Maliki concerns about his personal gains rather than Iraq’s national interest.” he added.

The UN Security Council voted last Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution removing Iraq from Chapter VII, after more than two decades of sanctions imposed by the former regime following the invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990.

Chapter 7 of the charter allows the Security Council to authorize actions ranging from sanctions to military intervention if states do not abide by the councils’ demands.

Under the UN resolution, Iraq will enjoy complete sovereignty and independent decision from one hand and it will be dealt with as recognized fully by the international community politically on the other hand.
