Israeli officials: nuclear strike on Iran is the only option

Israeli Channel 12 quoted Israeli officials as saying that reviving the nuclear deal would not be signed before Ibrahim Raisi took office in August, and that his views on foreign policy and the nuclear program reflected those of Ali Khamenei.

"There is no choice now but to plan an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities," an unnamed senior security official told the same channel.

"Iran’s new president, known as the Butcher of Tehran, is an extremist responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iranians. He is committed to the regime’s nuclear ambitions and to its campaign of global terror," The new Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid had tweeted.

Aviv Kochavi, Chairman of the Israeli Joint Chiefs of Staff, is scheduled to travel to the United States in the coming hours to meet with his American counterparts to discuss common security challenges, foremost of which is the Iranian nuclear program, Tehran's efforts to expand its military presence in the Middle East, and arming Hezbollah with Iranian high-precision missiles.

Commenting on the election of a president, the US State Department expressed its regret at depriving the Iranian people of a free and fair electoral process.

The US State Department stressed the United States' commitment to continue negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki announced Saturday that Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will meet US President Joe Biden at the White House on June 28.
