The Director-General of the Directorate of Combating Violence against Women and the Family in the Kurdistan Region, Kurdo Omar, announced an agreement with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to develop an application for people who are subjected to sexual harassment.

In a statement to Rudaw Media Network, Kurdo Omar said that about 70% of the problems women face today are from technology and social networks, so we thought of an application for those who are subjected to harassment, which would enable them to register their complaints as soon as possible and from their homes.

Omar explained that "the application is being worked on with the assistance of the United Nations Population Fund, and it will be activated this year in both Kurdish and Arabic."

Regarding the beneficiaries of the application, Omar said "everyone over the age of 12 can use the application, and it has a section for help. The person subjected to harassment can press on it for three seconds, then the voice is recorded and the location is determined."

About the way the police arrival at the scene of the accident, the Director-General of Combating Violence against Women and the Family stated that "the police in the Kurdistan Region do not adopt the digital system, so the police will not be able to reach the scene of the accident immediately, so it is possible to rely on the application's recordings as evidence provided by the complainant during the trial process."

The application will be available on Android and iOS, through which the police, the hotline or a specific person can be notified of the incident.

Statistics of the Directorate of Combating Violence against Women and the Family indicate that 59 women were sexually assaulted during the first six months of the current year.
