President Nechirvan Barzani received the incoming Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, Mr. Maurizio Greganti, in Erbil today.

Ambassador Greganti expressed delight over his new duties in Iraq and gave a brief overview of his coming mission and working agenda in the country. The Ambassador also emphasized on further strengthening his country’s bilateral relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Discussions covered a host of issues including the war on terror, the threats of ISIS and ways to confront the terror network. Mr. Greganti valued the contributions of Peshmarga in fighting and eliminating ISIS.

The President congratulated the new Ambassador on taking the office and wished him success, and expressed his support for Ambassador’s mission in the country. The President also voiced Kurdistan Region’s willingness to develop relations with Italy especially in commerce and investments.

The President shed light on the security and political situation in Iraq, and underlined the importance of the joint operations of the Iraqi army and the Peshmarga whit support from the international coalition to eliminate terrorism. The President also expressed Kurdistan Region’s readiness to resolve the issues on the basis of the constitution.
