Continuing his meetings at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, President Nechirvan Barzani met today with Germany’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tobias Lindner.

The President congratulated Mr. Lindner on assuming the office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and presented an overview of the situation in the Kurdistan Region and the latest developments in the political process in Iraq with the current challenges the country is facing.

Foreign Minister Lindner referred to the process of extending German troops’ deployment in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and expressed his country’s readiness to continue supporting, providing training and assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Regarding the recent ruling of the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court on the oil and gas law in the Kurdistan Region, President Nechirvan Barzani stressed that the Kurdistan Region will continue to seek a resolution to the problems on the basis of the constitution.

Discussions also focused on the resurgence and continued threats of ISIS, the issue of immigration, the conditions of migrants at the Belarusian border, the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the countries of the region.
