President Nechirvan Barzani met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mr. Peter Maurer, today in Germany on the second day of the Munich Security Conference.

The President valued the contributions of the Red Cross especially in conflict zones, and offered his gratitude to the ICRC for its humanitarian efforts in the Kurdistan Region, expressing the Kurdistan Region’s support for their continued work in the country.

Mr. Maurer presented an overview of their work and activities in the Kurdistan Region and thanked President Nechirvan Barzani for the cooperation and coordination which the relevant authorities and institutions of the Kurdistan Region have offered. Mr. Maurer said they attach great importance to working and continued cooperation in the Kurdistan Region.

Both sides agreed that the Middle East is diverse and that in the absence of stability, tensions are likely to trigger migration. Discussions also highlighted the developments in Syria, underlining that the assault of ISIS on Hasaka Prison is alarming. Discussed was also the developments in Iraq.
