President Nechirvan Barzani met with Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ms. Sophie Wilmes today at the sidelines of Munich Security Conference in Germany.

Discussions focused on the continued fight against terrorism and the outcome of the war against ISIS, highlighting the conditions in a-Hawl refugee camp. Both sides agreed that to confront terrorism, in addition to military response, there must be an all-encompassing plan to strengthen the culture of tolerance and coexistence with reciprocal respect for all religions and communities, especially through education.

Discussions also focused on the condition of the Yezidis, the victims of terrorism, the rescued Yezidis who were previously kidnapped by the ISIS and the Yezidi Female Survivors law.

Discussions also highlighted the elections in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The President reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to hold the elections on time. The President also thanked Belgium aid and support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region within the international coalition against ISIS.
