President Nechirvan Barzani and US Senator Lindsey Graham discuss developments in Iraq and the region

President Nechirvan Barzani received on Tuesday in Erbil United States Senator, Mr. Lindsey Graham, and his accompanying delegation which included the US Ambassador to Baghdad Ms. Alina Romanowski; the Commanding General, Combined Joint Task Force, Major General John Brennan and a number of diplomats and officials from the US military.

The meeting highlighted the current situation in Iraq, the political process in the country, the latest developments in the war against terrorism, Erbil-Baghdad relations and the ongoing talks to resolve their disagreements, the situation in Syria and the Kurdish issue in that country.

Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the wider region and agreed that the danger of terrorism and the resurgence of ISIS are real threats to peace and stability in Iraq and Syria, and to combat it, peace and stability in the wider region must be maintained with all sides taking part in the efforts towards that objective.

President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude for the support and assistance of the United States to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the fight against terrorism, stressing that the key to stability and resolving the issues of Iraq is to resolve the issues of Erbil-Baghdad.

The meeting also discussed the relations between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the neighboring countries and with the countries in the region, the latest developments in the region and other issues of mutual interest.
