President Nechirvan Barzani received today [on Tuesday] in Erbil the Governor of Western Azerbaijan of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Muhammad Sadiq Mu’tamedyan and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed a range of issues including the bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran, enhancement of economic partnership and trade between the two sides, and further facilitating the pilgrimage and visits by tourists from Iran to religious destinations in Iraq through the borders of the Kurdistan Region.

The delegation expressed their pleasure to visit the Kurdistan Region and meeting with President Nechirvan Barzani. They reiterated their support for any further development of trade relations between the two sides.

For his part, the President highlighted the long standing relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran in all areas emphasizing the further development of bilateral relations. The President also discussed the Kurdistan Region’s vision for good relations and enhanced cooperation with neighboring countries in various fields.

The political developments in the wider region and other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting, which was attended by the Governor of Erbil, the Head of the Soran Administration and the Council General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil.
