Kurdistan Region Presidency Announces Date for Legislative Elections

The Kurdistan Region has set November 18, 2023, as the date for holding legislative elections, according to a statement made by Dilshad Shehab, the spokesman for the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region.

The announcement was made on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at a press conference.

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, set the date for the elections in accordance with Amended Law No. 1 of 2005.

Shehab urged all political parties to consider the public interest and resolve any issues related to the Independent High Commission for Elections and Referendum in the Kurdistan Region to ensure the success of the elections.

He also stressed the importance of preserving the rights of all components in the electoral process and called for no decision to be imposed on them.

The United Nations has been asked to support the Kurdistan Region to ensure the success of the electoral process.

President Barzani had previously expressed his commitment to holding the elections this year, warning that failing to do so would put the political process and the legitimacyof the Kurdistan Region at risk.
