Fresh strikes reported in Sudan despite international pressure to maintain ceasefire

Fresh strikes have been reported in parts of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, despite international pressure to maintain the latest 72-hour ceasefire.

Millions of people remain trapped in the city, where there are shortages of food, water, and fuel. Violence is also said to have been particularly bad in El Geneina, a city in Darfur, where militias are reported to have looted and torched markets.

The fighting began two weeks ago, triggered by a bitter power struggle between separate Sudanese military factions. One of the warring generals, Hemedti, has told the BBC that his troops are being relentlessly bombed, and that he will not negotiate until the fighting ends.

Meanwhile, the UK government has given Britons a deadline of midday local time to catch flights out of Khartoum.

The situation in Sudan remains highly volatile, with the conflict posing a significant threat to the country's stability and the safety of its citizens. make it a news report
