King Charles III and Queen Camilla prepare for coronation amidst controversy and protests in London

Charles III of the United Kingdom will receive the royal coronation ceremony, and his wife Camilla will be crowned as queen in a day of grandeur and ceremonial tradition.

On May 6, 2023, King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at Buckingham Palace to prepare for the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

However, there were reports of anti-monarchy protests in London's Trafalgar Square, with four people arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause public nuisance.

Large crowds had gathered along The Mall outside Buckingham Palace to witness the coronation procession, with more than 11,000 police deployed in the capital to respond to any potential disruptions.

Controversy broke out over the royal jewels, with some South Africans calling on the UK to return diamonds set in the crown jewels.

The coronation ceremony itself was expected to be attended by more than 2,000 people, with representation from 203 countries and over 100 heads of state.

After the ceremony, the newly crowned King Charles III and Queen Camilla were to process back to Buckingham Palace in a golden coach with other members of the royal family and 4,000 members of the British armed forces.

It's Britain's first coronation in nearly 70 years and the first of a king since 1937.
