Kurdistan Region Leaders and British Ambassador Discuss Erbil-Baghdad Talks, Elections, and Sinjar Status

President Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region separately met with British Ambassador to Iraq, Mark Bryson-Richardson, on Sunday, to discuss the latest developments in the region.

The meetings addressed the ongoing talks between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve their outstanding issues, the upcoming elections in Iraq, and the situation in Sinjar.

The parties commended the progress made between Erbil and Baghdad and stressed the importance of resolving internal political differences in the Kurdistan Region.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that the region has fulfilled all its obligations under the oil agreement with Baghdad and expects the Federal Government to do the same.

The British Ambassador reiterated his country's support in resolving issues between Erbil and Baghdad, within the framework of the constitution. Both parties agreed on the significance of holding parliamentary elections at the scheduled time this year.

Regarding the situation in Sinjar, the parties emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the wider region, preventing hate speech, and implementing the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Iraqi Government on the status of Sinjar.

Discussions also focused on implementing the Shingal Agreement and protecting the rights of the Yezidi people while encouraging peaceful coexistence.
