Kurdistan Regional Government holds cabinet meeting with PUK ministers

After a six-month boycott by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) members, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet held its weekly cabinet meeting with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and the PUK ministers. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, was held on Sunday in Erbil.

The first topic addressed was the latest developments in resuming oil exports as part of the oil deal between Erbil and Baghdad. The KRG and the Iraqi federal government agreed on April 4 to resume the export of Kurdish oil via Turkey after Ankara had shut down the flow in late March following a verdict in favor of Iraq by the International Court of Arbitration in Paris.

During the meeting, the ministers also discussed the reorganization of public finances, including the consideration of an Iraqi report on terror financing in the country.

The participation of the PUK ministers in the meeting comes after a series of disagreements between the party and the KRG. However, last week, Prime Minister Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Talabani met in Erbil to resolve the issues and pave the way for the PUK's return to the cabinet meetings.

The resumption of PUK's participation in the cabinet meetings is a positive development, as it signifies a renewed commitment to unity and cooperation within the KRG. The Kurdish people have long suffered from political instability and division, and the return of the PUK to the cabinet meetings is an important step towards addressing the issues facing the region.

Overall, the KRG cabinet meeting discussed crucial issues related to the oil exports, public finances, and terrorism financing, indicating a concerted effort towards improving the region's economic and security situation.
