Erbil, Kurdistan Region - In a significant step towards enhancing cooperation and addressing shared challenges, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) welcomed Aoun Diab Abdullah, the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, and his delegation to discuss matters related to water resources and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq.

The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, focused on strengthening collaboration and coordination between the two entities, particularly with regards to water resources. The participants engaged in comprehensive discussions concerning the development and renovation of dams, along with the importance of constructing new dams in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Prime Minister Barzani and Minister Abdullah emphasized the significance of intensified joint efforts to address pressing issues such as water scarcity, desertification, and the adverse impacts of climate change. Water scarcity has emerged as a critical concern in the region, impacting agriculture, livelihoods, and the overall well-being of the population.

During the discussions, Prime Minister Barzani commended the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources for their commitment to water management, highlighting the importance of cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq to ensure sustainable utilization of water resources. The committee will focus on implementing practical measures, exchanging technical expertise, and sharing data and information to ensure the sustainable and equitable distribution of water resources across the region.
