Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Welcomes UK's Formal Recognition of Yezidi Genocide

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, expressed gratitude and support for the United Kingdom's recent decision to formally recognize the Yezidi genocide. The UK government's acknowledgment came after a German court's judgment earlier this year, which found a former ISIS fighter guilty of acts of genocide and crimes against humanity committed in Iraq.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed the UK's recognition, considering it a just acknowledgement of a heinous crime and a painful past. The genocide against the Yazidis has been a dark chapter in history, and this recognition represents an important step towards seeking justice and healing for the survivors.

"Our Yazidi brothers and sisters have prevailed and remain strong. We stand by our proud people as they heal and rebuild," Prime Minister Barzani added, highlighting the resilience of the Yazidi community in the face of unimaginable atrocities.

UK Minister of State for the Middle East, Lord Tariq Ahmad, issued a public statement affirming the historic acknowledgement of acts of genocide against the Yazidi people. He emphasized that this determination would reinforce the UK government's commitment to ensuring that the survivors receive the compensation they are owed and gain access to meaningful justice.

The formal recognition by the UK government marks a significant milestone in acknowledging the suffering and loss endured by the Yazidi community during the ISIS-led genocide. It paves the way for further efforts to address the aftermath of the atrocities and support the Yazidi people in their journey towards healing and recovery.
