President Nechirvan Barzani Calls for Urgent Meeting to Address Sinjar Crisis

In a heartfelt address during a commemoration ceremony marking the ninth anniversary of the Yazidi genocide in Sinjar, President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Region called for immediate action to address the ongoing crisis in the region. He urged the parliament, government, and political parties in Kurdistan and Iraq to hold a special meeting to find urgent and practical solutions for the plight of Sinjar.

During the ceremony attended by consuls, Yazidi officials, and prominent figures, President Barzani expressed deep concern over the continuing tragedy of the Yazidi people. He emphasized that the genocide perpetrated against them has not yet been fully resolved, and the fate of many Yazidi women, children, and men remains uncertain.

In his speech, President Barzani commended the courage and sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces. He lauded the success of the Peshmerga's reorganization under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani, which effectively dismantled the reign of terror imposed by ISIS.

The President extended gratitude to the international coalition for their support to both the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces, enabling them to eliminate the ISIS threat. He also expressed appreciation to the people of Kurdistan for their compassion and hospitality towards the Yazidi refugees, who sought shelter within their borders during the dark days of the crisis.

Highlighting the enduring wounds caused by the tragedy in Sinjar, President Barzani stressed that its resolution requires collaborative efforts from all parties involved. He called on external forces present in Sinjar to withdraw and allow the rightful inhabitants to administer and protect their land. Specifically, he urged the PKK and all other foreign forces to leave the region to restore stability and peace.

President Barzani underscored the humanitarian and peaceful nature of the Yazidi faith, which advocates for coexistence and harmony. He praised the Kurdish people for their respect and reverence towards the Yazidis, emphasizing that there is no room for hate speech or extremism in their shared society.

Finally, President Nechirvan Barzani issued a call to action, urging the parliament, government, and political parties in Kurdistan and Iraq to convene a special meeting. The purpose of this meeting would be to find urgent and practical solutions to the ongoing situation in Sinjar. He emphasized that it is only through collective effort and cooperation that the deep wounds inflicted upon Sinjar can be healed.

As the region responds to President Barzani's call, the international community closely observes the situation, hoping for constructive dialogue that will lead to a resolution of the Sinjar crisis. The fate of the Yazidi community and the restoration of peace and stability in the region rest upon the commitment of all parties involved to come together and find a path towards reconciliation.
