Coordinated Efforts Between Peshmerga and Iraqi Army Reduce ISIS Threat in Kirkuk Region

Leaders within the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army have confirmed that the presence and threat posed by ISIS militants and their dormant cells have significantly receded due to increased coordination and joint operations in the Kirkuk region. This collaboration has led to the restoration of security and peace in areas that were previously strongholds for ISIS militants, largely due to security gaps between Peshmerga and Iraqi Army forces.

The commander of the "Qaratapa - Jamreen" axis of Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, Mardan Saleh, spoke to Kurdistan24, stating, "The coordination between Peshmerga and the Iraqi Army has prompted us to carry out several joint operations."

Saleh went on to say, "ISIS terrorist organization was once a formidable force, controlling various areas. However, now their fighters appear in small groups and are mobile. Our coordination with the Iraqi Army has restored peace and security to these areas."

Lieutenant Imad Al-Maliki, an officer in the Iraqi Army, told Kurdistan24, "As the Iraqi Army and Peshmerga forces, we have a great level of cooperation among us. This cooperation extends to high-level planning and coordination between the army and Peshmerga, all in accordance with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, who emphasized the necessity of coordination and information exchange to ensure security and peace throughout the region."

Continuous information sharing between Peshmerga and the Iraqi Army has brought security and stability back to areas that were previously under ISIS control. An officer in the Peshmerga noted that intelligence coordination has also significantly reduced dormant ISIS cells.

Since December 2021, Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army have been coordinating efforts and have executed several joint security operations. This collaboration has proven effective in countering the ISIS threat and enhancing the overall security situation in the Kirkuk region.

The joint efforts of Peshmerga and the Iraqi Army serve as a positive example of inter-agency cooperation in the fight against terrorism, offering hope for the continued stability and security of the region.
