Iranian Border Guards Injure Five Kurdish Kolbers, Arrest Ten Near Saqqez

In a distressing incident near the city of Saqqez, Iranian border guards opened fire on a group of Kurdish Kolbers, resulting in five injuries and the arrest of ten others. The incident was reported by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, which advocates for the rights of Kurdish individuals.

The injured Kolbers have been identified as Syamak Suhrabi, Hiwa Khalid, Abdullah, and Kaywan. The fifth injured individual's identity remains unknown. The wounded have been transported to local medical facilities for treatment.

This incident comes just weeks after another episode in late October, when Iranian border guards fired upon a different group of Kolbers near the town of Nawsud. At least ten Kolbers were injured during that encounter while engaged in the transportation of goods across Iran's national borders.

Kolbers, individuals who shoulder the responsibility of cross-border cargo carriers, play a crucial role in the transportation of goods between the Islamic Republic of Iran and neighboring nations, including Iraq. These workers predominantly hail from Iranian Kurdistan, where limited economic opportunities and widespread poverty persist.

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has condemned the recent aggression against the Kolbers, calling for a thorough investigation and urging authorities to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by these essential laborers, who operate in hazardous conditions to support their families and communities. Advocates continue to call for improved working conditions and increased protection for Kolbers working in the region.

The Iranian government has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. International observers are closely monitoring the situation as calls for justice and accountability continue to grow.
