Crisis Unfolds at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City

In a rapidly escalating situation, hundreds of people are fleeing al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, where Israeli forces have been conducting operations for several days. Disturbing images show columns of Palestinians evacuating on foot, some waving white flags in a desperate attempt to signify their non-combatant status.

A journalist who is part of the evacuation reported gunfire and explosions overnight, recounting that bulldozers had dug massive holes in the hospital yard. The hospital director claimed that the Israeli military had ordered the evacuation, alleging that there was an imminent threat to the facility. However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied this, asserting that they assisted people in leaving after a request from the hospital director.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza disclosed that 120 patients, including premature babies, still remain at the hospital. Tensions have escalated further as Israel accuses Hamas of operating a command center beneath the hospital. The Israeli military has presented images of an alleged tunnel shaft and weapons, claiming them as evidence.

Reports from northern Gaza also suggest that a UN school, serving as a shelter, has been hit. Israel has stated that it is investigating these claims.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has reached a grim milestone, with the Hamas-run health ministry reporting more than 12,000 casualties in Gaza since Israel initiated its campaign against the organization. The Israeli offensive intensified after Hamas carried out attacks on October 7, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and the taking of more than 200 hostages.

The international community is closely watching as tensions continue to escalate, and concerns grow about the humanitarian impact on civilians caught in the crossfire. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
