Erbil and Tokyo Explore Education Partnership and Bilateral Cooperation

In a recent meeting between Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Japanese Ambassador Futoshi Matsumoto, discussions centered around enhancing cooperation between Erbil and Tokyo, with a focus on introducing the Japanese education system into Kurdistan Region schools. The envoy expressed commitment to supporting Barzani's efforts to develop and strengthen the region.

Ambassador Matsumoto shared details of the meeting on his official social media account, revealing that both parties explored "a couple of good ideas." These ideas included the introduction of the Japanese education system in Kurdish schools, upgrading Erbil's sewage system, and fostering increased business exchange.

The envoy emphasized his country's support for peaceful negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad, particularly on issues related to the budget. The meeting addressed ongoing challenges between the two regions, highlighting Japan's commitment to facilitating diplomatic solutions.

As part of their engagements, both Barzani and Matsumoto attended the Alumni Association of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where JICA's significant role in the region's development was underscored. Prime Minister Barzani expressed gratitude to the Japanese people and government for their support through JICA, which has contributed to various projects, including sewage and water treatment initiatives and capacity-building training for civil servants.

In an exclusive interview with Kurdistan 24, Ambassador Matsumoto elaborated on the multifaceted cooperation between Erbil and Tokyo. The discussions emphasized the potential for collaboration in key areas, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering mutual growth and development.
