Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region demonstrated proactive global diplomacy today during the opening sessions of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai. In a series of strategic meetings, the Prime Minister engaged with a diverse array of world leaders, emphasizing collaborative efforts to combat climate change.

Among the notable leaders participating in these discussions were King Charles of the United Kingdom, King Abdullah II of Jordan, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Kazakhstani President Qasym Tokayev, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, along with several senior Emirati officials.

The discussions, spanning a range of climate-related topics, underscored the urgent need for international cooperation in the face of environmental challenges. Prime Minister Barzani's active participation highlights the Kurdistan Region's commitment to playing a key role in the global efforts to address climate change.

On the inaugural day of the summit, Prime Minister Barzani was warmly welcomed by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
