President Nechirvan Barzani Urges Unity and Reflection on 54th Anniversary of Autonomy Agreement

In commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the historic March 11, 1970 Autonomy Agreement between the Iraqi government and the Great September Revolution, President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Region has issued a poignant statement, reflecting on the significance of this milestone in Kurdish history.

The Autonomy Agreement, a landmark document in modern history, symbolized the recognition of the rights of the Kurdish people, achieved through the relentless struggle and sacrifices of Kurdistan's inhabitants under the leadership of the late Mustafa Barzani. President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized the pivotal role this agreement played in laying the groundwork for subsequent achievements in Kurdistan.

President Barzani did not shy away from acknowledging the turbulent history of Iraq, characterized by the use of force, denial of rights, and misguided policies towards the Kurdish population and other Iraqi communities. He highlighted how the Iraqi government's withdrawal from the agreement triggered a cascade of wars, destruction, and instability that continue to reverberate across Iraq today.

In light of this anniversary, President Barzani called upon political parties in the Kurdistan Region to unite, overcome internal conflicts, and collectively address challenges and accomplishments. He emphasized the paramount importance of safeguarding the constitutional rights, entity, and federal status of the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, he urged Iraq as a whole to learn from the painful lessons of its past, implement the constitution, protect the federal system, and uphold the rights of all Iraqi peoples and communities.

President Nechirvan Barzani extended his heartfelt greetings on this significant anniversary, paying tribute to the brave souls of the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of Kurdish rights and autonomy.

The President's message resonates not only within the Kurdistan Region but also across Iraq, serving as a call for unity, reconciliation, and a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous future.
