Prime Minister Masrour Barzani presided over a crucial cabinet meeting in the Kurdistan Region, focusing on key issues including ongoing financial disputes with the federal government, anti-corruption efforts, and ensuring financial transparency. The meeting began with a discussion on recent high-level talks with US officials, highlighting continued US support for the region. Minister of Finance and Economy, Awat Sheikh Janab, provided updates on salary disbursements for Kurdistan Region employees, noting that only a portion of the requested funds from the Federal Government was allocated, potentially affecting February 2024 salary payments. The initiation of the "My Account" project, overseen by the Central Bank of Iraq, was highlighted as a solution to facilitate salary payments.

The Council emphasized the importance of ensuring all salaried individuals receive their entitlements and praised the "My Account" project for its cost-effectiveness and superior services compared to traditional methods. Plans to expand participation in the project were discussed.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the financial rights of its citizens amid negotiations with the federal government and expressed confidence in the "My Account" project to facilitate transparent and efficient financial transactions within the region.

A significant aspect of the meeting was the presentation of the first report from the Kurdistan Regional Integrity Commission on the implementation of the National Strategy against Corruption. The Council reiterated its commitment to combat corruption and instructed relevant authorities to implement the report's recommendations.

The cabinet meeting underscored the Kurdistan Regional Government's dedication to addressing financial disputes, combating corruption, and ensuring transparency. With ongoing negotiations with the federal government and the implementation of initiatives like the "My Account" project, the region aims to uphold its citizens' financial rights and bolster accountability and integrity in governance.
