Urgent Measures Called for by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister to Protect Lives in Flood-Hit Duhok

In response to the escalating crisis brought on by heavy rains and subsequent floods in Duhok, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has issued a call for urgent measures to safeguard the lives of citizens in the affected areas.

Prime Minister Barzani held discussions with Dr. Ali Tatar, the governor of Duhok, stressing the imperative need for immediate action to ensure the safety of residents amidst the inundation. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government's commitment to provide swift assistance to the affected populace not only in Duhok but also in other affected provinces.

Governor Tatar corroborated Prime Minister Barzani's statement, highlighting the collaborative efforts underway with KRG's Minister of Interior, Reber Ahmed, to address the pressing challenges posed by the floods. The joint efforts aim to mitigate damages and prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens.

The relentless downpour since Tuesday morning has triggered widespread flooding across Duhok, prompting the closure of numerous neighborhoods and roads. Kurdistan24 reporter Chakdar Jamal, stationed in Duhok, has reported severe devastation in various areas, notably in the Domiz community, as well as the Barooshke and Nazarke neighborhoods.

The deluge has inundated countless homes, inflicting substantial damage to properties and disrupting the lives of countless individuals. The situation remains dire as authorities and emergency services grapple to manage the aftermath of the natural disaster.
