Iranian Security Forces Execute 18 Inmates in March, Rights Group Reports

According to a report released by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Iranian security forces have executed at least 18 inmates in the month of March alone. The report highlights a concerning trend of executions targeting individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Among those executed, five were of Turkish descent, four were Kurds, three were Balochs, and three were of Afghan origin. The charges against them varied, including espionage for Israel, murder, and drug-related offenses.

Iran's judicial system has come under scrutiny for frequently issuing death sentences to Kurdish citizens and individuals from minority groups. Critics argue that these sentences are often imposed for a range of offenses, from murder to involvement in drug-related activities.

Last year, Iranian human rights groups documented a minimum of 252 executions by security forces, a figure that has sparked growing concerns among both local and international human rights advocates. The continued use of capital punishment in Iran raises questions about the fairness and transparency of the country's legal system, prompting calls for reform from various quarters.
