No Airstrike Confirmed at Kalsu Base in Babylon Province, Iraq

Iraq's military has confirmed that the military base in Babylon province was not subjected to an airstrike on Friday, as investigations into the incident continue.

At approximately 1:00 am (Baghdad Time), an explosion followed by a fire erupted within the Kalsu base in the northern region of Babylon province. The base, serving as the headquarters for army units, police, and pro-Iran Hashd al-Shaabi militias, tragically witnessed the death of one militiaman and left eight others injured, including a member of the Iraqi army with varying degrees of injuries.

According to a statement released by the Security Media Cell, prompt and effective responses from civil defense teams in Babylon and supporting authorities played a crucial role in containing the fire. Their swift interventions prevented further spread, demonstrating commendable coordination and efficiency.

In response to the incident, a high-level technical committee comprising experts from civil defense and relevant entities has been convened. Their primary objective is to ascertain the root causes of the explosion and subsequent fires within the site and surrounding vicinity, indicating a commitment to thorough investigation and transparency.

Initial assessments, supported by positional verifications and official statements, have led to declarations from the International Coalition Forces in Iraq and the Pentagon's spokesperson, confirming the absence of aerial activity or military operations in Babylon's general area at the time of the explosion.

Furthermore, a report from the Air Defense Command, utilizing technical analysis and radar detection, has affirmed the absence of drones or fighter aircraft in Babylon's skies before and during the explosion.

Both the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Global Coalition to Combat the Islamic State (IS) have vehemently refuted reports alleging US or Coalition forces' involvement in Friday’s attack in Babylon. These statements further solidify assertions of non-involvement and underscore the ongoing efforts to establish the facts surrounding the tragic incident.

As investigations continue, the incident at Kalsu base underscores the complexities and challenges facing security forces in Iraq, highlighting the importance of comprehensive and diligent response measures in ensuring the safety and stability of the region.
