KRG Signs Contract for Halabja City Master Plan with Renowned Foreign Company

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism signed a major contract with a well-known foreign company to execute the master plan for the city of Halabja. The signing ceremony, held in the presence of Minister of Municipalities and Tourism Sasan Auni and Halabja Governor Azad Tawfiq, marks a significant milestone in the development of the city.

Minister Auni announced that the comprehensive plan will be implemented within 450 days, with a budget exceeding one billion dinars provided by the Kurdistan Regional Government. The minister emphasized the close coordination between the Ministry and Halabja Governorate to ensure the plan's successful execution.

"The company chosen for this project is highly reputable in the Middle East, with a strong track record, including the Green Belt project in Erbil and other major initiatives in the region," said Auni.

Governor Azad Tawfiq highlighted that the project is a direct result of the recent visit by Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Halabja. He expressed hope that the master plan would be a transformative step for the city’s future development.

Back in March 2024, Prime Minister Barzani ordered the allocation of funds for the master plan, marking it a priority project for the government. According to Minister Auni, the plan will serve as the foundation for Halabja’s urban expansion and infrastructure, covering key sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, and commerce, while also addressing environmental, demographic, and cultural needs.

"The master plan is crucial for Halabja’s future. It will guide the city’s expansion and development, ensuring the provision of essential services while preserving the historical and cultural significance of Halabja," Auni stated.

With the necessary funds now allocated and the project officially launched, the operational phase is set to move forward swiftly, promising a new era of growth for Halabja.
