Officials in Afghan government affirmed that an American soldier opened fire on tens of civilians in Qandahar state killing at least 16 persons, later was arrested by the NATO forces.

The solider walked out from his military base and opened fire on tens of civilians, killing at least 16 persons and wounded a number of others Haji Agha lali a member in Qandahar local council said.

Capt. Justin Broshwf from international young security forces belonging to NATO forces said the firing accident took place outside the soldier’s base and a number of civilians were injured. The reasons behind this accident still are not clear, investigation is underway by the international forces and afghan officials, we apologies and sympathize with the victims’ families.

Also the United States expressed its deep condolences to families of victims as announced by U.S. Department of State.
