Political motives denied over electricity report reading delay
There are no political motives behind postponing the reading of the federal Investigative Committee's report into the country's electric power contracts, said the committee.
The head of the committee, which is responsible for investigating possible corruption into the contracts of the Electricity of Ministry, indicated that the reading will be postponed until May 3.

The discovery that a contract last year worth $1.7bn between two German and Italian companies and the Electricity Ministry was fake led to the Electricity Minister Raad Shallal resigning from his post, and his arrest. He was later released on bail.

The report, recently submitted to the Presidency of the Council, is said to recommended the sacking of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy affairs Hussein al-Shahristani and a number of staff linked to the fake contracts.

Uday al-Awad, the committee's head, said the report was not submitted for reading today because of insufficient numbers for a meeting, and ruled out any political motives behind this.
