Foreign Minister Meets Head of UN Mission in Iraq
Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, met in the Ministry HQ today, Thursday, 26/4/2012, Mr. Martin Kobler, Head of the UN mission in Iraq.

During the meeting, both officials discussed the Camp Ashraf (the New Iraq) issue and Iraq's honoring its humanitarian and international obligations toward the residents of the camp. Iraq demanded that the European and foreign countries would accept the resettlement of the camp's residents, otherwise the ongoing process between Iraq and the UNAMI mission of moving them to Camp Liberty would be threatened with failure.

The Minister and Mr. Kobler also discussed the Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations, which witnessed a significant improvement. Preparations are underway to hold the next Iraqi-Kuwaiti joint committee meeting on the period of 29 to 30/4/2012 in Baghdad to discuss bilateral issues to get to the full exit of Iraq from the provisions of Chapter VII.

The Minister reviewed preparations undertaken by Iraq to for the 5 +1 group of the major powers and the European Union with the Islamic Republic of Iran, to be held in Baghdad on 23/5/2012, about Iran's nuclear program due to the importance of this file for the region and regional security in line with the Arab Summit resolution during its 23rd meetings in Baghdad and the policies included in the "Baghdad Declaration".

Minister Zebari reiterated the importance of the UNAMI mission carrying out its tasks contained in its UN authorization of help and support.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Ministry Undersecretary and Head of the International Organizations Department in the Ministry.
