24 villages deserted in Akre due to the threat of the PKK

On the borders in the regions of both Akre and Amedi districts, PKK militants have set up bases and barracks in the villages and do not allow civilians to return to their villages, while government officials, if they want to provide services to some border areas, the PKK will create problems. Government officials also accuse the PKK of making dozens of villages in the two districts desert their villages.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cannot reach the border villages of Akre district, which is more of a border town of Dinarteh and due to the presence of PKK militants," Mazen Mohammad, Governor of Akre, told the official website of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). "There is a danger to the people of those villages and they cannot return to their villages," He added.

"Often due to the dangers of PKK militants, the region is targeted by Turkish warplanes, and in recent years, there have been casualties. We have warned the Goverenment presidency and the Kurdistan Parliament of the dangers of the PKK, as there are threats to the local people, and two days ago a number of PKK militants entered the village of Mimbar and set fire to a civilian house." Mazen Mohammad, Governor of Akre, added.

Sarbast Sabri, the director of the Kani Masi district in the Amedi district, also told the KDP's official website: "There are about 200 villages in our border that have not been rebuilt due to the PKK's threats, and people cannot return to their villages, and sometimes the villagers temporarily want to go back to their villages for agricultural purposes, the PKK militants prevent them and they are not allowed to go to their villages."

Sarbast Sabri also pointed out that there are daily fighting and tensions on the border in Amedi because PKK militants are hiding in the area and the Turkish army is attacking them, and several other villages are in danger, as PKK militants are also approaching these villages.
