Iraqi PM's advisor: International observers to follow the elections

Adviser to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Hussein Al-Hindawi, said that the UN Security Council has taken a decision to send international observers to the elections scheduled for the tenth of next October.

Al-Hindawi said - in a statement today, Wednesday, that the council is currently studying the merits of this decision and the mechanism of its implementation, adding that his country is awaiting the plan for the Security Council resolution to determine the date of the arrival of the UN election monitoring team and to provide them with security and logistical support.

He pointed out that the monitoring will be consistent with the biometric mechanisms, and taking into account the number of arrivals will be through study and coordination with the Electoral Commission.

The adviser to the Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that the biometric device allows a person to vote only once and prevents any fraud in the upcoming elections.

It is expected that Iraq will hold early elections on the tenth of next October, the decision to hold it came in implementation of the popular movement that began in late 2019 against the corruption of the ruling political class, unemployment, the loss of services and its rejection of Iranian domination of Iraq’s capabilities.
