President Nechirvan Barzani received today in Erbil Mr. Martin Jaeger, the Ambassador of Germany to Iraq, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on the latest political developments, the anniversary of the general elections held in October 10, 2021, the ongoing efforts made to correct the political process, and the formation of a new Federal Iraqi Government.

President Nechirvan Barzani thanked Germany for their support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the war against terrorism and for the extension of the German troop deployment in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The President also congratulated the new Consul General of Germany to Kurdistan, Mr. Klaus Streicher, on assuming the office and wished him success.

In the meeting, both sides emphasized the mutual willingness to further develop the bilateral relations of the Kurdistan Region and Germany, the importance of the continued support of the international community and friendly countries to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and the formation of a government that would serve and respond to the grievances of the Iraqi people. They also discussed the developments in the Kurdistan Region and the future prospects.

Discussions also covered Erbil-Baghdad relations, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with neighboring countries, the latest developments in the wider region, and other issues of mutual interest.
