Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Discusses Pending Issues with US Ambassador

On Thursday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with the United States Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, in the presence of United States Consul General Irvin Hicks in Erbil. The meeting aimed to address pending issues and overcome obstacles between the KRG and the Federal Government in Baghdad.

The discussions primarily focused on the urgent need to resolve these issues within the framework of the Iraqi constitution and in accordance with mutually agreed-upon terms. Both parties emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional principles and fulfilling mutual obligations to strengthen the relationship between the KRG and the Federal Government.

One significant aspect of the discussions centered around the Kurdistan Region's share of the federal budget. Prime Minister Barzani reiterated his government's unwavering commitment to resolving all outstanding matters constitutionally with the central government in Baghdad. The protection of the region's rights and financial entitlements was emphasized, with Prime Minister Barzani making it clear that any encroachment upon these rights would not be tolerated by the KRG.

Internal affairs within the Kurdistan Region were also addressed during the meeting. Both parties stressed the utmost importance of expediting the parliamentary elections in the region as soon as possible. The need for timely elections was highlighted as a means to ensure the democratic process is upheld and to allow the people of the Kurdistan Region to exercise their right to elect their representatives.

The meeting between Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and US Ambassador Alina Romanowski showcased the commitment of both parties to resolving pending issues and fostering a cooperative relationship between the KRG and the Federal Government.
