Kurdistan Regional Government Delegation Holds Crucial Talks on Financial Matters and Oil Exports in Baghdad

A high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government engaged in significant discussions with officials from the federal government and "SOMO" company in Baghdad, addressing critical financial issues, the region's budget allocations, and its oil exports.

Led by Omid Sabah, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Council of Ministers, the delegation underscored the importance of these discussions to enhance cooperation and address pertinent matters between the federal government and the autonomous Kurdistan region.

During the meetings held on Wednesday, the focus of the talks revolved around financial affairs and the allocation of the region's budget. The delegation carefully examined the budget reference for previous months, emphasizing the need for transparency and equitable distribution of resources to support the region's development.

Of particular significance was the topic of non-oil revenues and their utilization in bolstering vital sectors within the Kurdistan region. The delegation emphasized the importance of diversifying revenue sources to reduce dependency on oil exports and promote sustainable economic growth.

Furthermore, the funding for the Peshmerga forces, crucial in maintaining security and stability in the region, was discussed in detail. Ensuring adequate support for these forces remains a priority for both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal authorities.

The delegation also held discussions with officials from the state-owned "SOMO" company, delving into the possibilities surrounding oil exports. The talks aimed to strike a balance between meeting the region's economic needs and addressing the broader national interests of Iraq.

As part of the delegation's engagements, the issue of oil companies operating in Kurdistan was brought to the forefront. The parties explored ways to ensure a conducive and cooperative environment for these companies to contribute positively to the region's economic prosperity.

In parallel with the financial discussions, the delegation visited the Iraqi Ministry of Planning to explore matters related to the investment and development budget for the provinces within the Kurdistan Region. The goal was to strategize on how to maximize resources to facilitate sustainable development projects and improve the living conditions of the region's inhabitants.

In a show of unity and goodwill, the Kurdistan Regional Government's delegation also congratulated Ammar Sabhi Khalaf, the newly appointed head of the Financial Control Bureau, during a cordial meeting.

The visit of the Kurdistan delegation to Baghdad on July 16 marked an important step in strengthening collaboration between the federal government and the autonomous region. By proactively addressing key financial issues and oil exports, both parties aim to work hand in hand to ensure the equitable development and prosperity of Iraq as a whole.
