Cairo Peace Summit 2023:Iraqi Prime Minister's Address on Palestine Crisis

During the 2023 Cairo Peace Summit convened to address the ongoing crisis in the Palestinian territories, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani delivered a speech outlining the dire situation and calling for international action.

In a resolute address, the Iraqi Prime Minister highlighted several critical points:

Genocide and War Crimes: The Prime Minister decried the situation in the Palestinian territories, characterizing it as a genocide targeting civilians in residential areas, churches, and hospitals.

Humanitarian Crisis: The situation, according to the Prime Minister, constitutes a complete war crime, beginning with the killing of innocent civilians and the imposition of a suffocating siege on Palestinian neighborhoods. He stressed the daily horrors, including massacres and the burial of innocent people beneath the rubble of their homes, echoing the memories of the Nakba in 1948.

Global Responsibility: The Prime Minister argued that Gaza serves as a new test for the global system, which he claimed has repeatedly failed to uphold its proclaimed values of humanity, justice, and freedom. He asserted that Palestine stands as a living testament to this systemic failure.

Violations of International Law: The Prime Minister accused the Zionist entity of persistent violations of international laws, including laws of war. He warned that these violations would not only affect international security but also extend the conflict regionally, jeopardize global energy supplies, exacerbate worldwide economic crises, and potentially lead to more profound and widespread conflicts.

Humanitarian Relief: In the face of the ongoing crisis, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of an immediate ceasefire, the opening of border crossings, and the allowance of humanitarian aid and relief materials. He also called for a comprehensive and safe exchange of prisoners and detainees.

Lifting the Blockade: To prevent the recurrence of the tragedy, the Prime Minister urged the complete lifting of the blockade on Gaza. He called for the establishment of a fund to support the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, pledging that Iraq would offer any possible assistance without delay.

Unwavering Palestinian Rights: The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of not dissolving or burying the Palestinian issue. He asserted that no one has the right to compromise or donate on behalf of the Palestinian people, as they are the rightful owners of the land and the cause.

International Call for a Palestinian State: Finally, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani emphasized that international legitimacy and free peoples continue to call for a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, untouched by settlements or blockades and starvation policies. Ignoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, he argued, only leads to more violence, extremism, and instability in the region and the world.
