Kurdistan Region Aims for Self-Sufficiency in Domestic Production; Inaugurates Packaging Factory

In a move toward self-sufficiency and boosting its agricultural exports, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region officially inaugurated the Fabyab Co. (Packaging Solutions) on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by senior members of his cabinet, including the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources and the Minister of Trade and Commerce, as well as the US Consul General in Erbil, Mark Stroh.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Barzani stressed the region's commitment to producing its essential needs domestically. He described the packaging factory as "extremely important" for the government's efforts to export agricultural produce abroad. This initiative aligns with the government's vision to enhance economic self-reliance.

Fabyab Co., a manufacturer specializing in high-quality cardboard packaging, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. This collaboration aims to package and export various agricultural products. In 2022, the first batch of Kurdistan Region pomegranates was successfully exported to Gulf markets, marking a significant milestone.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his appreciation for the factory's contribution to job creation, with hundreds of employment opportunities generated by the project. He reiterated his government's commitment to supporting similar initiatives that promote economic growth and self-sufficiency in the region.

The factory visit included a tour of the production line and interactions with the dedicated workers, highlighting the collaborative spirit of this endeavor. In the coming years, the Kurdistan Region plans to expand its agricultural exports, with grapes, figs, and honey among the products slated for exportation.

The Kurdistan Region's commitment to enhancing its self-sufficiency and agricultural exports signals a positive step toward economic growth and self-reliance, further establishing its presence in the global market.
