Kamikaze Drones Target US-Led Coalition Base in Kurdistan Region, US Responds with Airstrike

In a recent overnight attack, at least two Kamikaze drones targeted a US-led coalition base in the northern Kurdistan Region's Erbil province. Fortunately, no casualties or material damages were reported, according to the Kurdish counter-terrorism group.

The first attack occurred at 11:30 PM local time and targeted the Harir Base of the international coalition. The second drone attack took place more than an hour later. The Kurdistan Region Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) released a statement confirming the attacks and the absence of casualties or material damages.

The CTD also provided two images showing the burned-down V-shaped tails of the drones. However, no additional details about the attacks were disclosed. Typically, such attacks are intercepted by the coalition's air defense systems across the country, and they are often attributed to Iranian-backed militias.

In response to recent attacks on its forces in Iraq and Syria, the US Central Command conducted a "self-defense" airstrike on a facility used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated groups. These attacks came following separate attacks on US targets in both countries.

Notably, Iranian-backed groups have increased their rocket and drone attacks on US bases in Syria and Iraq, including those from the Kurdistan Region. These escalations are believed to be linked to the eruption of the Hamas-Israel war, triggered by a bloody attack by the Palestinian Islamist group on the southern communities of Israel on October 7.
